Privacy Policy

ThirdCopy is a macOS backup utility made by Embay, LLC. It is built to know as little about you as possible. This policy explains what little there is.

Your files stay yours

ThirdCopy copies files from folders you choose to a backup destination you choose (a local drive, external drive, or network share). Your file names and file contents are never sent to us or to any third party by ThirdCopy. There are no ThirdCopy servers, no accounts, and no sign-in. The app runs sandboxed and can only access the folders you explicitly grant.

What we collect

With your consent settings respected (see below), ThirdCopy collects two narrow categories of data, using Google Firebase as a processor:

• Anonymous usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase): things like how often backups run, whether they succeed, counts and sizes of changed files, which features are enabled (for example continuous mode or the deleted-files safety net), app version, macOS version, and coarse country. This never includes file names, file contents, folder paths, or anything that identifies you personally. We use it to understand which features matter and where backups fail.
• Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): technical diagnostics if the app crashes — stack traces, app and OS version, and device model. These help us fix bugs.

ThirdCopy does not use advertising identifiers, does not track you across apps or websites, and contains no ads.

Your choices

• Analytics can be turned off at any time in ThirdCopy’s Settings → Options → “Share anonymous usage data.”
• In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, analytics is off by default and only enabled if you opt in.
• Crash reporting is used to keep the app reliable; in the EEA/UK/Switzerland it also remains off unless you opt in.

Data retention and deletion

Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for Firebase for a limited period (we configure the shortest practical retention) and is aggregated and anonymous. Because we hold no account or identifier tied to you, there is no per-user profile for us to look up — but if you have any privacy question or request, contact us and we will help.

Processors

Google LLC (Firebase: Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics) processes the data described above on our behalf. See Firebase Privacy and Security.

Children

ThirdCopy is a general-purpose utility not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
